Counselling Psychology is an interesting hybrid of the scientific rigour of psychology with the humanistic philosophy of psychotherapy. This means that we are trained in the evidence-based psychological therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) but also the main humanistic approaches such as Person-Centred Therapy which believes that each person can develop their full human potential given the right therapeutic support, and psychodynamic theory, which believes that the root of our problems lies in our childhood development.
I have worked as a counselling psychologist for more than 15 years, ranging from bereavement support and community care to the specialist perinatal mental health unit at St Thomas’ hospital maternity service and the crisis intervention service at Holloway Prison. The essence of my philosophy has been to treat people as individual human beings and help them find the strengths and skills to empower themselves and move forward with their lives.
I have also completed a foundation training in couples counselling with the London Marriage Guidance organisation and a short training in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy with the University of Bangor.
This rich and multi-faceted training allows me the flexibility to draw on a wide range of therapeutic approaches to formulate a unique treatment plan for each client. I work collaboratively with you to discover what will be most helpful to you at this time in your life to make a real difference.
I am registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am bound by the BPS’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
